TAV AIRPORTS SIGNED “THE TOULOUSE DECLARATION”: EUROPEAN AIRPORTS AND THEIR KEY STAKEHOLDERS ON THE JOURNEY TO DE-CARBONISATION OF AVIATION INDUSTRY

TAV Airports, today, 4th of February 2022, has signed the “Toulouse Declaration”, joining the global aviation initiative towards decrease of CO2 emissions in the environment, led by 200 European airports and a total of 400 airports globally who are already certified under the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.

The Toulouse Declaration is launched by the French Presidency to the EU today, 4th February, as the first-ever public-private initiative supporting European aviation’s goal to reach net zero CO2 emissions by 2050.

As members of Airports Council International-Europe, TAV Airports in Turkey, North Macedonia, Georgia and Kazahstan are honored to be on ACI EUROPE’s list of signatories to the Toulouse Declaration.

The goal of the airports across the European continent, who’ve signed the Declaration is to work together with the key stakeholders in aviation industry, with a common goal to decrease CO2 emissions in the environment and reach net zero emissions in 2050.

Olivier Jankovec, Director General of ACI EUROPE said: “Each and every airport undersigning this Declaration is making a tangible difference to our future as an industry, as an economy and as a society. They continue to demonstrate ambition, vision and excellence in their sustainable actions. I admire and applaud each and every one of them.”

Metin Batak, TAV Macedonia General Manager said: “As TAV Macedonia we are glad to be part of TAV Airports group that joined the initiative lead by 200 airports across geographical Europe and 400 airports in total globally, who are leaders within the aviation sector on its pathway towards decarbonizing the environment. By signing the “Toulouse Declaration” and following ACI’s industry roadmap, as their members, we will work together with all aviation stakeholders to reach the final goal - net zero CO2 emissions by 2050.”

The Toulouse Declaration marks the first time that European Governments, the European Commission, industry, unions and other key stakeholders formally align on aviation decarbonisation.

It is a highly significant moment, paving the way for the concrete next steps, both in the establishment of an EU Pact for Aviation Decarbonisation, and globally as we look to the UN’s ICAO to set a global goal for international aviation later this year.

Airports have long been first movers in leading the challenge of decarbonising aviation. With almost 200 European airports now certified under the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme (link to ACA release), and close to 400 airports globally, our work to reaching net zero carbon emissions for those operations under our control by 2050 continues to make tangible progress. European airports jointly made this public undertaking in 2019, and have since reconfirmed this goal with a number of airports publishing roadmaps taking them to this target by 2030 and a handful of trailblazers already there. They are also actively engaging with their business partners and stakeholders to advance decarbonisation of the broader air transport system.

ACI EUROPE’s signing of the Declaration, both in its own right and as a partner in the Destination 2050 aviation industry roadmap, is now complemented by the individual undertaking of over 200 airports across the continent adding their signatures.
