TAV ANNOUNCES: EUROWINGS WILL START TO FLY FROM SKOPJE TO MUNICH AS OF OCTOBER 2017

TAV Macedonia is announcing that the German low cost airline Eurowings, part of the Lufthansa group, will start to fly from Skopje to Munich as of 31st of October 2017, connecting the passengers from Skopje International Airport to Munich Franz Josef Straus Airport - the main airport in this German city. 

The airline will operate on this route 2 times a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, with the aircraft type Airbus A320-200, which has capacity of 174 seats.

As announced by Eurowings, the ticket sales for the route Skopje-Munich, started on 15th of March, and the booking is available online, at the airline’s web page: www.eurowings.com.

-We are glad that today we can announce another new route opening from Skopje International Airport, while at the same time the entrance of a new low cost airline on the Macedonian market. Eurowings will start to fly on the route Skopje - Munich as of 31st of October this year, providing passengers a direct connection to the main Munich airport. Macedonian citizens and all our passengers from the region will get additional connection to this German city, as well as new intra-Europe and intercontinental connection flight opportunities, thanks to codeshare agreement between the mother company Lufthansa and its daughter company Eurowings. This route is a direct proof of the successful end of the negotiations we had with the airline in the past period, and we hope that this is just the beginning of our fruitful cooperation and of Eurowings’ investment in Macedoniastated Alper Ersoy, TAV Macedonia General Manager. 

Last month the airport operator announced the possibility of introducing new routes from Skopje to Germany, by Eurowings, explaining the ongoing process of negotiations with the airline and the meeting with airline’s representatives in Skopje, underlining that TAV Macedonia is constantly undertaking similar marketing activities, has meetings and negotiates with airlines and tour-operators. Result of such similar activities are the new flights that will start this summer season to Ohrid airport, from Warsaw and Katowice, as well as the biggest European tour operator Thomas Cook that was brought by TAV in Macedonia and in 2016 started to fly on the route Brussels-Ohrid.

-We are pleased to announce our first destination in Macedonia – Skopje and our new route to Munich. This new route between Skopje and Munich will operate two times per week - every Tuesday and every Friday, starting from October 31st. Skopje will become one of our 140 destinations and we will look forward to invest more in Macedonia and in the region in the future, stated Ivan Orec, Eurowings´ Network development manager.

Eurowings with headquarters in Cologne is part of Lufthansa group and it is considered as low cost airline. It flies to more than 150 destinations in more than 40 countries in Europe and it is well known by the good route network to attractive tourist leisure locations. It flies to many countries in the region, such as Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Turkey.  

TAV Macedonia finished the first two months of 2017 with 9% increase in the number of passengers, reaching 238.180 passengers at both Macedonian airports – Skopje Alexander the Great and Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle. Last 2016 was finished with 1,8 million passengers on both airports, and a 15% increase on the annual level, while the number of flights was 16.883, with 8,9% growth.

There is regular shuttle bus to/from Skopje International Airport for passengers that drives and stops at key bus stops throughout the City of Skopje and arrives at the airport. V2V Transporter manages and operates the shuttle buses for passengers. The shuttle bus timetable is prepared according to the arrivals/departures of flights at Skopje International Airport. Skopje International Airport operates 24/7. Restaurants and cafes such as Cakes & Bakes, Café In, Burger King and NeedStop are available for the passengers at any time; business lounge (PrimeClass CIP Service) offers you comfort 24/7, while ATU Duty Free is opened as per the flights timetable and offers wide range of products.  

Check-in at the passenger and baggage check-in counters starts 180 minutes (3 hours) before the scheduled time of departure (STD) specified on your flight ticket. The closing time of the airport check-in counter is no later than 60 minutes before STD stated on your flight ticket.
Since the beginning of COVID–19 pandemic, due to the requirements for different travel documents imposed by different countries, TAV Macedonia appeals to passengers to arrive at the airport 3 hours before take-off.

Passengers are allowed to carry on board free of charge items such as coat, 1 umbrella or walking stick, 1 ladies handbag, 1 camera or binoculars, 1 baby transporter, 1 pair of crutches or similar prosthetic aids, medical equipment on which the passenger is fully dependent, a reasonable quantity of baby food.

Regarding the baggage fees amount, please contact your airline, because each airline has its own baggage policy and applicable rules.

Yes. Since 2015 TAV Macedonia has introduced free Wi-Fi internet at Skopje International Airport, which was upgraded in 2019. Passengers can access free internet through their mobile devices by simply connecting to a wireless network called TAV Airports, password is not required.

Yes. At Skopje International Airport there are specially designated, marked parking lots for persons with disabilities and the car park services are free of charge within 24 hours. By enclosing the traffic license and the disability identification card at the Car Park Payment Counter, located inside the terminal building, our employees will cancel the car park ticket and the person with disability will be automatically exempt from paying for the car park service. If all designated parking lots for persons with disabilities are occupied, park your car on a regular parking lot, and following the above stated procedure you will be exempted from paying for the car park services.

Yes. At Skopje International Airport there is a Special Assistance Service for passengers with reduced mobility (PRMs). The counter where you can ask for this free of charge service is located inside the Terminal building, next to the Information Desk. Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM) means any person whose mobility is reduced due to physical incapacity (sensor or locomotor), intellectual deficiency, age, illness, or other cause of disability.

Yes. There is a smoking room at Skopje International Airport, which is located in the security-restricted area, airside. The smoking room is located next to Gate number 201, i.e., on the left side after you pass passport control and security screening.
In addition to the smoking room, passengers can use the open terraces of the cafeterias located at the entrance to the terminal building of the airport.
Smoking is prohibited in all other areas of the terminal building.
