CZECH AIRLINES AND TAV MACEDONIA ANNOUNCE: REGULAR ROUTE SKOPJE-PRAGUE AS OF MAY 2016

As of 20th May 2016, Czech Airlines will renew its regular Skopje – Prague connection, offering up to three frequencies a week on the route. Ticket- sales for the Skopje – Prague flights have been already opened at the beginning of December 2015 through all distribution channels. One-way tickets start at EUR 85, while return tickets start at EUR 159, including all charges.

Czech Airlines will launch operations on the new Skopje – Prague route on 20 May 2016 with two return flights a week, departing Skopje on Mondays and Fridays in the morning, at 4:10 a.m. local time and arriving at Václav Havel Airport Prague at 6:00 a.m. local time.

Effective as of 13 June 2016, the carrier will add another frequency on Wednesdays, departing Skopje at the same time. Return flights will be leaving Prague on Thursdays and Sundays and, effective 14 June 2016, on Tuesdays in the evening, at 22:25 p.m. local time, arriving in Skopje at 00:25 a.m. local time. The flights will be operated by modern Airbus A319 aircraft with 144 seats in the Business and Economy Class configuration. The flights between Skopje and Prague take roughly two hours. Czech Airlines plans to provide the service year round.

Tickets for Czech Airlines’ Skopje – Prague regular service and also additional services provided by the carrier as reservation of a particular seat in an aircraft, menu upgrade in Economy Class, excess or additional baggage and others have been opened for purchase since 9 December 2015 on Czech Airlines’ website www.czechairlines.com, via the company’s Contact Centre and ticketing offices, and within the network of travel agencies and ticket sales points.

-I am glad that Czech Airlines, thanks to continued renewals of its previous activities at the Balkan Peninsula, can now offer the citizens of Macedonia a direct connection between Skopje and Prague. Bearing in mind that a month of ticket sales is a very short time, we can see that the first results are very optimistic. Interest in both local connections between the two cities and connecting flights from Prague, primarily to Germany and Scandinavia, has been confirmed. In the days to come, we will launch a series of business meetings with travel agencies and ticketing offices on the Macedonian market. At the same time, we believe that a direct connection between Skopje and Prague will contribute to further growth of business relations between the two countries. We are also convinced that a direct scheduled connection will appeal to tourists in both countries. Macedonian and the Czech Republic as well as Skopje and Prague undoubtedly have a number of attractions with appeal to all types of tourists, Ján Tóth, Czech Airlines Director of Commerce and Marketing, said.

The timetable of new service has been designed in a way to suite the Macedonian business and leisure travellers headed to Prague and the Czech Republic. Both target groups will be able to plan their time in Prague in a way to enjoy two full days with one night stay only or a long-weekend.

-With the new route Skopje-Prague we accomplish another request to our valued passengers, for a direct flight to one of the most beautiful European capitals, the city of a hundred spires, as Prague is called.  Czech Airlines (CSA) served this line successfully from 2005 to 2012. The reestablished flying to Prague will provide greater economic and cultural exchange between the Czech Republic and Macedonia. We expect more Czech tourists, and increase of the cargo-traffic, Zoran Krstevski, TAV Macedonia General Manager, said.

The arrivals of the new Skopje flights have been coordinated with the departures of many Czech Airlines’ regular scheduled flights. Passengers travelling from Skopje will thus be able to continue, after an easy and fast transfer, aboard Czech Airlines’ flights to a number of traditional destinations, such as Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Paris, but also to a number of cities in Scandinavia, such as Copenhagen in Denmark, Gothenburg and Stockholm in Sweden and now also to Helsinki in Finland. On the other hand, introducing a direct scheduled connection between Prague and Skopje wsill make Macedonia more attractive and accessible to tourists from the Czech Republic and other countries.

After a four-year pause filled with restructuring activities, Czech Airlines returns to its traditional destinations on the Balkan Peninsula, planning to launch operations on several routes to Prague from there. In the 2016 summer season, Czech Airlines plans to launch also regular scheduled flights from Zagreb and Sarajevo to Prague.

The historically first Skopje – Prague flight was serviced by Czech Airlines on 17 May 2005. Operations on the route were discontinued on 17 March 2012 due to the company’s restructuring activities.

TAV Macedonia ended 2015 with 22%increase in the total number of passengers at both Macedonian airports – Skopje Alexander the Great and Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle, reaching  1.560.381 passengers. At the same time, the total number of operations was 15.510, with an increase of 11%.

There is regular shuttle bus to/from Skopje International Airport for passengers that drives and stops at key bus stops throughout the City of Skopje and arrives at the airport. V2V Transporter manages and operates the shuttle buses for passengers. The shuttle bus timetable is prepared according to the arrivals/departures of flights at Skopje International Airport. Skopje International Airport operates 24/7. Restaurants and cafes such as Cakes & Bakes, Café In, Burger King and NeedStop are available for the passengers at any time; business lounge (PrimeClass CIP Service) offers you comfort 24/7, while ATU Duty Free is opened as per the flights timetable and offers wide range of products.  

Check-in at the passenger and baggage check-in counters starts 180 minutes (3 hours) before the scheduled time of departure (STD) specified on your flight ticket. The closing time of the airport check-in counter is no later than 60 minutes before STD stated on your flight ticket.
Since the beginning of COVID–19 pandemic, due to the requirements for different travel documents imposed by different countries, TAV Macedonia appeals to passengers to arrive at the airport 3 hours before take-off.

Passengers are allowed to carry on board free of charge items such as coat, 1 umbrella or walking stick, 1 ladies handbag, 1 camera or binoculars, 1 baby transporter, 1 pair of crutches or similar prosthetic aids, medical equipment on which the passenger is fully dependent, a reasonable quantity of baby food.

Yes. Since 2015 TAV Macedonia has introduced free Wi-Fi internet at Skopje International Airport, which was upgraded in 2019. Passengers can access free internet through their mobile devices by simply connecting to a wireless network called TAV Airports, password is not required.

Yes. At Skopje International Airport there are specially designated, marked parking lots for persons with disabilities and the car park services are free of charge within 24 hours. By enclosing the traffic license and the disability identification card at the Car Park Payment Counter, located inside the terminal building, our employees will cancel the car park ticket and the person with disability will be automatically exempt from paying for the car park service. If all designated parking lots for persons with disabilities are occupied, park your car on a regular parking lot, and following the above stated procedure you will be exempted from paying for the car park services.

Yes. At Skopje International Airport there is a Special Assistance Service for passengers with reduced mobility (PRMs). The counter where you can ask for this free of charge service is located inside the Terminal building, next to the Information Desk. Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM) means any person whose mobility is reduced due to physical incapacity (sensor or locomotor), intellectual deficiency, age, illness, or other cause of disability.

Yes. There is a smoking room at Skopje International Airport, which is located in the security-restricted area, airside. The smoking room is located next to Gate number 201, i.e., on the left side after you pass passport control and security screening.
In addition to the smoking room, passengers can use the open terraces of the cafeterias located at the entrance to the terminal building of the airport.
Smoking is prohibited in all other areas of the terminal building.
