TAV welcomed GullivAir 1st commercial flight from Sofia at Skopje Airport

TAV Macedonia, this morning at 5:48h, with a water cannon salute welcomed the first GullivAir’s flight from Sofia at Skopje International Airport.

With an ATR 72 - 600, that can accommodate 70 passengers, the airline made its inaugural regular flight touchdown at Skopje International Airport, marking the start of their official commercial operations on the Macedonian market.

  • As TAV we are excited to mark and celebrate GullivAir’s entrance on the Macedonian market, with today’s launch of the new route from Sofia to Skopje. The Macedonian capital will be connected to the Bulgarian capital, by air, twice a week, on Saturdays and Mondays, as of today, March 26th. The airline will fly to Skopje International Airport for the first time, so we can add GullivAir as new airline and the flights Sofia–Skopje–Sofia as new air route to the portfolio of Skopje International Airport and Macedonian aviation market in general, after a longer period of time. We are happy that the airline started its operations to and from Skopje Airport despite the still ongoing covid pandemic. Sofia–Skopje or Sofia–Skopje flights now connects both capitals in just 30 minutes. We believe that this route has a great potential, both for leisure and for business travelers. Bulgarian and Macedonian passengers may find this route useful and beneficial to visit the capitals of both countries and at the same time they can continue their travel to other more distant destination to other foreign countries. The introduction of this air connection will contribute not only to the development of Macedonian aviation, but also to the economic cooperation between both countries. We look forward to long-term and proliferate cooperation and many happy and satisfied passengers.”, stated Metin Batak, TAV Macedonia General Manager.

TAV Macedonia officials outlined that this new route would allow travelers from both Macedonia and Bulgaria to enjoy and discover the beauties of the two cities – Sofia’s picturesque city parks or the city center, and Skopje’s rich cultural landmarks and charming natural sites.

  • “GullivAir Airlines is happy to announce the launch of new scheduled flights between Sofia and Skopje. The portfolio of Gullivair's scheduled operations is now increasing up to 3 new routes (Burgas, Skopje, Tirana) and in mid-summer season we are expecting to present our new scheduled overseas flights to New York and New Delhi. This will enable the citizens of North Macedonia and their guests to explore new routes that are available only by a 30-minute flight to Sofia and giving the connection to the Black Sea – or to Burgas Airport. Sofia-Skopje flights will operate twice a week, or on Mondays and Saturdays, with a 70 economy class seats aircraft. The flight will last 30 minutes only, thus creating a convenient connection between the two capitals, which for the last 15 years have lacked a direct air route. The benefits of these flights will be essential for our people and will contribute to strengthening the good relations between us. We believe and we look forward to a fruitful collaboration with TAV Macedonia and Skopje Airport. Special thanks to the Ministers of Transport of both North Macedonia and Republic of Bulgaria.’’, stated Georgi Kolev, CEO of GullivAir.

Reservation and booking of flight tickets is available on GullivAir’s website https://gullivair.com/. The flights are scheduled from today March 26th, 2022, on Saturdays and Mondays.

TAV Macedonia finished the first 2 months of 2022 (January and February) with a total of 215.227 passengers, at both Macedonian airports, Skopje International Airport and Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport, which is a 107% increase compared to the same period in 2021, and 29% decrease compared to 2019, considered as a referent year for aviation.
